Can Anti Aging Products Put You At Risk Of Cancer?
Ageing is something no one can avoid and so there are huge numbers of people looking for a solution to looking older. The market is does huge for sales of anti aging products. Ageing people, in most cases, don’t realize that so many of the anti aging products available today contain ingredients which may be dangerous, and fragrances are a fine example.
Some estimates are that there are more than 4000 fragrances that are in use today in so many personal products including anti aging skin care products. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to smell nice and anti aging products with fragrances in them sell very well. Why is that a problem if you want to smell nice?
The problem is simple. The vast majority of fragrances are simply nice smelling chemicals produced in laboratories. Whilst there’s nothing immediately wrong with producing a chemical the studies are showing that many of these, when applied on our skin, can have serious health implications. If you started to read some of the studies about the risks of fragrances you’d be very surprised.
Not every fragrance has health implications, there are some very good fragrances made from essential oils that do not, however these are usually too expensive and the anti aging companies always opt for the cheap alternative.
If you search the Cosmetic Safety Database you’ll see that fragrances are linked to cancer, immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity, allergies, disruption of the endocrine system, irritation to the eyes and skin and lungs and more.
If you bought the latest bestselling ageing moisturizer you will probably use it over a reasonably large area of your skin. And your skin will absorb the fragrance just like you ate it.
Of course the same will apply to so many of our perfumes however at least when you apply a perfume you do so in only small amounts. Skin care products are applied over a quite large area of your skin.
All this may be a shock for you. It’s a sad fact that so many personal, beauty and anti aging skin care products that so many of us use every single day contain chemical ingredients that may well be dangerous to your health and which you are not warned about. It’s not just fragrances, there’s many more examples.
Some small anti aging companies have seen an opportunity here. One in particular now commits to using no fragrances at all in it’s products for this very reason. And in fact they commit to making anti aging products products that are safe enough to eat.
The market for anti aging skin care products is worth billions of dollars and it’s a case of buyer beware. Though there may be studies showing the risks to so many ingredients in anti aging products the skin care companies are unlikely to warn you about them.
I write a website to educate about the risks of ingredients in modern personal products including anti aging skin care products and attempt to point people towards safe and effective alternative products.
